Bread
48-hour sourdough, made with British flour from a mill in the Pennines.
A small, flour-dusted bakehouse in Heaton Moor. Slow sourdough, cardamom buns still warm at 8am, brunch until 2, and beans roasted just up the road in Stockport.
We bake through the night so the shelves are full when you walk in. Once a bake's gone, it's gone, so early birds get the pick of the cardamom buns.

Dogs are very welcomeWater bowl by the door, and a biscuit jar behind the counter for good pups.
Bread runs out by lunchSaturdays especially. Pre-order and your loaf waits for you with your name on it.
Late-season Victoria plums from a grower near Macclesfield, on a buttery almond sponge in our sweet pastry. Lovely with a flat white, even better with a dollop of crème fraîche. Here till Sunday, or till they run out.
Saturday is our busiest bake and the shelves are often bare by eleven. Order by Thursday 6pm and we'll bag yours up with your name on it. Pay when you collect.
Hand-finished sponges, decorated however you like. We need at least 72 hours' notice, and a bit longer in December. Tell us the idea and we'll come back with a price within a day.
Little Crumb started on a kitchen table in Heaton Chapel, with a sourdough starter called Gordon and far too many Saturday morning farmers' markets. In 2019 we took on the old greengrocer's on the high street, put a deck oven where the potatoes used to be, and haven't had a lie-in since.
We're a team of seven now: four bakers, two baristas and one very patient person on the till. We bake in small batches, buy from people we know by name, and give whatever's left at close to a food bank in Stockport.
Nia & Tom, head bakers“The cardamom buns are dangerous. I walk past on the way to the station and have stopped pretending I'm not going in.”
“Ordered a lemon and elderflower cake for my mum's 70th. It looked like a painting and tasted even better. Not a crumb left.”
“My Saturday ritual: pre-order a seeded rye, collect at 9, flat white on the bench outside with the dog. Perfect.”
Anything else, give us a ring between 8 and 3, or catch us at the counter.
Not during the week, there's usually plenty. On Saturdays we often sell out by late morning, so pre-ordering by Thursday 6pm is the safest way to get your loaf.
Every cake is baked, filled and decorated from scratch, and the sponges need time to settle before we finish them. For weddings or anything over two tiers, give us at least two weeks.
We always have vegan options, including a vegan chocolate celebration cake. We can't offer gluten free, because flour gets everywhere in a kitchen this size and we wouldn't want to risk it.
We don't take bookings, it's first come, first served. Weekday mornings after 10 are quietest. There's a bench outside and blankets in winter.
We bake for a handful of local spots already and have room for a couple more. Drop us an email and tell us what you're after.
Look for the yellow-and-terracotta awning on Heaton Moor high street, between the bookshop and the florist.
